More than 1.2 million independent New Yorkers are shut out of the elections that decide who governs our city.
That isn't an accident. It's the result of election rules that force voters to join a political party before they can participate in taxpayer-funded primary elections. Every year, millions of New Yorkers pay for elections they aren't allowed to vote in.
We're working to change that.
Open Primaries is organizing independent voters across all five boroughs to demand a more open, representative democracy. We're bringing independent New Yorkers together to testify before the Charter Revision Commission, speak to the media, meet with elected officials, organize their communities, and build public support for opening New York City's primary elections.
This campaign is powered by grassroots supporters—not political parties or special interests.
Your contribution helps us:
- Organize independent voters across New York City
- Produce videos and digital campaigns that amplify independent voices
- Recruit and train citizen spokespeople
- Conduct public opinion research and voter education
- Mobilize New Yorkers to testify, organize, and take action
- Build the movement needed to finally open New York City's elections
For decades, politicians have defended the status quo. But New Yorkers are demanding something better.
If you believe every voter deserves an equal voice—whether they're a Democrat, Republican, independent, or belong to no party at all—please make a contribution today.
Together, we can build an election system that belongs to all New Yorkers.
